Discussions in France about retirement often give the impression that pensions have to correct a large part of the inequalities of the working period.
They suggest an at least partial dissociation between the two
It is both wanting to overturn a kind of determinism resulting from the work period that conditions the level of pensions but it is also the idea that the retirement period will be one during which everyone can finally reveal themselves and have a chosen life without the constraints of the working world.
This suggests that the period of work is the compulsory and forced passage to access “real” life. A passage that should then be able to be corrected in order to return to a world conditioned by the need for greater equality of situations.
Equality at all costs, however, is not fairness and negates everyone’s ability to choose.
